BritE StAr  (British Early Diagnosis in Sarcoma Audit)

 

A NATIONAL COLLABORATIVE PROJECT

Data Collection dates: 5th September 2022 to 27th November 2022

The Birmingham Orthopaedic Network (BON) is pleased to collaborate with BOOS (British Orthopaedic Oncology Society), British Sarcoma Group, BCRT (Bone Cancer Research Trust), Sarcoma UK and UK Sarcoma Advisory Group to undertake this national collaborative project. 

The aim of the project is to understand the current pathways to diagnosis in the UK for bone & soft-tissue sarcomas, auditing current practice against BSG, NICE & Scottish referral for suspected cancer 2019 guidelines. This would take the form of a prospective, simultaneous audit of all centres in UK diagnosing appendicular, pelvic and spinal sarcoma. The methodology has been tested and externally validated. 

Collaborators in each participating trust will register their audit locally, and collect data prospectively using a locked, coded Excel spreadsheet over a fixed time period. The data collection period is over twelve weeks from 5th September 2022 to 27th November 2022 inclusive Data will be analysed centrally identify patterns in symptom recognition and referral pathways for sarcomas and enable us to make recommendations for improvements. All participants will be listed as collaborators in any resulting presentation and publication.
